Most people today prefer to socialise online rather than spending time with their friends in the local community. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Nowadays, people interact with online friends instead of those who are staying on their premises. However, I think, giving priority to social media communication over local relations has more adverse impacts than benefits.
To begin with, online socialisation is less reliable than direct interactions. To explain, in most circumstances, the individuals become close with whom they chat regularly and trust them blindly. As per the police records, thousands of people have been deceived by cybercriminals by sharing personal photos with them. This exemplifies that betrayal resulting from online relations not only makes a person heartbroken but also causes financial risks.
Besides, if people prefer online socialisation over making friends in their locations, it will develop public hesitation in them. To elaborate, when individuals show reluctance to mingle with residents, their coordination skills will not be improved which makes the person timid. For example, certain youngsters who have a lot of friends circle on social media do not even know how to talk face to face.
Nevertheless, online platforms enable individuals to find people who have similar thoughts. To elaborate, social media allow people to create groups and improvise their knowledge by discussing with others who have the same interests. For instance, certain Facebook groups have been intended to encourage certain activities such as gardening and cooking where interested people can converse.
Considering the pros and cons of preferring online socialisation to regional relationships, the negative outcomes are more as compared to the positive effects as it makes people weaker in communication skills and also the chances of being cheated is greater.
To conclude, it is always better to make friends in neighbourhood rather than using social media.
